Richard Travis Plumlee August 16, 1946 - February 2, 2023

Richard Travis Plumlee, 76, of Houston, Texas passed away February 2, 2023 in Houston, Texas. Richard was born on August 16, 1946 in Stamford, Texas, to Dexter S. Plumlee, Sr. and Beatrice Fare Plumlee. Richard has two brothers, Dexter S. Plumlee, Jr., and Steven Plumlee. After graduating from Henrietta High School, he graduated from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls with a BS in Chemistry, then attended Texas Christian University graduate school until changing plans and graduating with a JD from the University of Houston. Richard married Debrah Thompson on January 24, 1981. Richard had various positions during his career. He worked as a cardiovascular research chemist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, as a technical sales representative at Beckman Instruments, and was Lab Director at the Gulf Coast Blood Center, receiving the High Impact Award in 2001. After retirement, he worked as an office manager for H&R Block. He always succeeded at his jobs, but his crowning achievement was his family especially his children along with their spouses and his three grandsons. They brought immense joy and satisfaction to his life. Richard enjoyed many sports, activities, and interests. He loved playing tournament badminton, tennis, jogging, basketball, and baseball. Especially fulfilling was watching his son and daughter play football and water polo, respectively. He was a voracious reader, was a magnificent storyteller, and scavenger hunt creator extraordinaire. He loved trips with family and friends including downhill skiing, hiking, summer visits to Schlitterbahn and San Antonio, and many special times with friends and family in Galveston. He also loved to grill and smoke meats for get togethers. He had a quick wit and a terrific sense of humor. He was very loyal and protective of his family and friends. Those left to treasure his memory include his wife, Debrah Thompson Plumlee (Houston); two children, Lora Plumlee Boone and Aaron (Ft. Worth, Texas) and Michael Travis Plumlee and Danielle Mirabal (The Woodlands, Texas); three grandchildren, Jackson James Boone, Wyatt Travis Boone and Dante Blas Mirabal Plumlee; his eldest brother, Dexter Plumlee and Janice (Hillsboro, Oregon) and many other cherished extended family members and friends. A celebration of life is planned in mid-March – Place/Date/Time – TBD. One of Richard’s favorite scriptures was Proverbs 16:9 “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” This was of great comfort to him and his family as he battled this disease with no cure.
